Sheriff's Office Participates in Special Olympics Torch Run

On Friday, June 6th, numerous local law enforcement officers, invcluding Sheriff Lippa and several members of the Caroline County Sheriff's Office, participated in the 27th annual law enforcement torch run. This event is done each year to raise awareness for Special Olympics and to raise money for the games. The torch carried through Caroline began its journey at Arlington National Cemetary. It continued south and was handed off to to Lt. Col Mike Grease of Fort A. P. Hill at the Caroline/Spotsylvania line on Route 1 by Sheriff Howard Smith and members of the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's office had 15 appointees participate in the event. Besides Sheriff Lippa, Major Moser, Lieutenant Chatman, Sergeant Rozell, Investigators Childress and Ellett and deputies Brennan, Doucet, Hall, Ketcham, and Wooldridge ran the torch. Several members of the Fort A. P. Hill police department also assisted.
Assisting in escort vehicles were members of the Virginia State Police, Lt. Colonel Hall, Lieutenant Beazley, Sergeant Lambert, Administrative Assistant Wimmer, and Donna Lippa, the sheriff's wife.
After running the torch through Caroline County, Sheriff Lippa passed the torch off to members of the Hanover County Sheriff's Office as the torch continued its way south towards the games at the University of Richmond campus.
