Sheriff Lippa's Recognition Coin
Early in his tenure, Sheriff Lippa wanted to invent a unique way to express his appreciation to members of the community for their support, their leadership, their involvement, or even their heroism. The appreciation coin is the result of that idea. The coin was designed by Sheriff Lippa and produced by the Symbol Arts Company of Ogden, Utah. The coin is about the size and weight of a United States half dollar. It features the Caroline Sheriff's Office badge on the obverse along with Sheriff Lippa's name and "Commonwealth of Virginia" along the bottom of its face. Also shown under the badge is "2004", the year Lippa took office to begin the "new look for the new sheriff's office." On the reverse, the coin features the new sheriff's office shoulder patch which Lippa also designed ringed in 5-point stars.
A special series of coins that display a sequential number in place of the "2004" were reserved specifically for those sheriff's office employees who have at least one year of tenure with the office. Sheriff Lippa personally presents these specially numbered editions on the employee's one year anniversary.
The coins were not intended or designed, nor will they be recognized as, an influence on any enforcement action by any law enforcement officer. The coin was simply a tangible way for Sheriff Lippa to show his thanks for positive contributions made by citizens. The coins were neither designed nor purchased with taxpayer funds.
